Selling one YouTube video is easier than selling a channel. Pin the spots on a thumbnail of the video you are about to make: a mention in the first 30 seconds, a mid-roll read, the top of the description, the pinned comment. Brands find it and ask for a spot.

How to monetize your YouTube video

  1. List it. Upload a photo of your YouTube video, mark each spot and pick how you bill: per week, month, event or post. We set the price from reach, market and demand.
  2. Get requests. Brands find it in Browse and message you. Accept or decline.
  3. Get paid. The brand pays when you accept. You are paid after you post proof that the logo is up.
  4. Or run an auction. Share a link and let brands bid. Start a YouTube video auction.

Get paid to put ads on your YouTube video

Share the video link with timestamps for each spot, and a screenshot of the pinned comment and description. Add a YouTube Studio screenshot after a week.

Tips

  • Tick 'includes paid promotion' when you upload, and say the sponsor out loud. A note in the description alone is not clear disclosure.
  • Say the video topic and planned upload date in your listing. Brands bid on a specific video, not a vague promise.
  • Keep the read in your own voice. YouTube does not allow you to drop a third party's video ad into your upload.

Questions

Can I sell spots on a video that is already up?

Yes, for the description, pinned comment and cards. You cannot add a spoken read without re-uploading, so say that in the listing.

What if the video gets age restricted or limited?

Tell the sponsor right away. The placement still ran, but they may care, so it is worth agreeing on this before you film.

Does a sponsor read hurt my YouTube ad revenue?

No rule cuts your ad revenue for having a sponsor, as long as you disclose it and the product follows YouTube's policies.

How do brands find my YouTube video?

List it once. Brands browse spots by type, city and price and message you through SponsorMySpot. Your email stays private.

Who sets the price?

Our pricing engine, like a ride app. It prices each spot from what it is, how many people see it and the market you are in, and the price rises when brands are asking for that kind of spot near you. Owners pick how they bill: per week, month, event or post.

When do I get paid?

The brand pays when you accept their request. You are paid after you post proof that the logo is up. Payouts go to your bank through Stripe. The fee is 8 percent.

Can brands bid against each other instead?

Yes. Run an auction: each spot opens at your start price and any brand can take it by paying double. Cards are held, not charged, until bidding closes.
