Advertise on my hackathon.

A hackathon fills a room with builders for a weekend, and many of them try the tools on the table. Pin spots on prizes, the schedule and the swag, get your prices, and let developer brands come to you. Keep the rules fair for every team.

How to monetize your hackathon

  1. List it. Upload a photo of your hackathon, mark each spot and pick how you bill: per week, month, event or post. We set the price from reach, market and demand.
  2. Get requests. Brands find it in Browse and message you. Accept or decline.
  3. Get paid. The brand pays when you accept. You are paid after you post proof that the logo is up.
  4. Or run an auction. Share a link and let brands bid. Start a hackathon auction.

Tips

  • Prize tracks must have open, fair judging. Do not let a sponsor pick a winner without criteria.
  • Never sell access to participants' code or contact details.
  • If it is a student hackathon, check your university's rules on sponsors.

Questions

Who pays for the prize?

You set the spot price. Say whether the prize money comes from it or from the sponsor separately.

Can a sponsor require teams to use their product?

Only for their own prize track. The main prize should stay open.

How early should bidding close?

A few weeks out, so swag and prize rules are ready.

How do brands find my hackathon?

List it once. Brands browse spots by type, city and price and message you through SponsorMySpot. Your email stays private.

Who sets the price?

Our pricing engine, like a ride app. It prices each spot from what it is, how many people see it and the market you are in, and the price rises when brands are asking for that kind of spot near you. Owners pick how they bill: per week, month, event or post.

When do I get paid?

The brand pays when you accept their request. You are paid after you post proof that the logo is up. Payouts go to your bank through Stripe. The fee is 8 percent.

Can brands bid against each other instead?

Yes. Run an auction: each spot opens at your start price and any brand can take it by paying double. Cards are held, not charged, until bidding closes.
